The presentation will provide an overview of the Helicopter Vortex-Ring-State (VRS) experimental research project funded by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and will aim on the one hand to provide a better understanding of the VRS phenomenon and on the other hand, to provide an indication of the effectiveness of different recovery manoeuvres.
A focus on the description of the potentially dangerous VRS phenomenon will be given, from aerodynamic and academic knowledge to operational challenges it involves.
A status on the ongoing project will be presented, including the next steps and milestones.
The conclusion will point out the gaps of the current knowledge for the complete description and prediction of this phenomenon
